Acting at TDA
TDA offers a variety of Acting classes meaning you can focus on the training that suits you best.

Saturday Speech & Drama Classes
These classes are a great introduction into acting as they provide a grounding in all Speech & Drama Subjects. These include; Acting, Poetry speaking, Reading for performance, sight reading, Mime, Improvisation and Devised Performance. Students benefit from increased confidence both in performance and socially from learning these key communication skills. Each class performs a play in December and all students are offered the opportunity to take part in Local Festivals & take an annual LAMDA examination in Verse and Prose during the spring and summer terms.

Thursday Group Acting Class
This fun workshop allows students to develop their imagination and performance skills. With an optional LAMDA exam this class offers great variety with workshops looking at different aspects of Drama each week. Students have the opportunity to take part in plays, as well as Devised group performances.
Weekday Private Tuition
Acting lessons are offered on a one-one and shared two basis. These lessons can be tailored to each students needs, whether it be to increase confidence in speaking due to hearing or speech difficulties, or specific audition preparation for Drama School, everything is covered.
TDA offers 3 LAMDA examination sessions per year and students are able to take subjects from both the performance and communication syllabuses. LAMDA examinations are regulated by OFQUAL, meaning that from Grade 6 and above they are assigned UCAS points towards university entry. LAMDA has long been recognised by universities as a key extra curricular qualification as it provides evidence of excellent communication skills and work ethic. Students wanting to get into Drama School are advised to gain as many qualifications as possible before applying.
Singing at TDA
Saturday Musical Theatre & Thursday Singing Classes
Find your voice and protect your vocal health! In our Musical Theatre and Singing Classes you have a chance to work with others, study musicals and have a go at setting songs. You will have many opportunities to perform in local and professional theatres. We study a wide variety of music from Hamilton to My Fair Lady. Everyone is given an chance to perform and no-one is left out. Although lessons are fun and incorporate acting and movement, singing technique is an important part of the teaching, incorporating elements from Bel Canto technique and the Estill model, currently popular at performance colleges. Recently Musical Theatre classes were invited to perform in the NSPCC Christmas Concert at Coventry Cathedral, at the Hinckley light switch on and the Christmas Tree Festival. We offer opportunities to perform in a professional theatre, either Birmingham Hippodrome or in the West-End and a yearly showcase at a local theatre.

Weekday Private Tuition
Individual lessons are available on Thursday and Friday evenings. Some pupils have individual lessons to build confidence in their voice and others because they want a career in the arts. You can choose to work through singing exams. We offer Rockschool (Rock and Pop), London College of Music or LAMDA (Musical Theatre), Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College (Mixed styles). Training is offered from beginner to degree level and you can choose to take your diploma with us.
Dancing at TDA
Saturday Modern Theatre Dance
This is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It adopts different styles from Jazz, to Contemporary, to Street Dance. It trains a strong dance technique that’s frequently used in Musical Theatre productions. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. There are now several syllabuses offering exams in theatre dance beginning at premiere level running right through to advanced vocational exams for older students. UCAS points are available for higher levels & all examinations are Ofqual regulated. We will be following The Performance Arts Awards in Jazz Dance offered by Rock School (RSL) with a view to offering students the opportunity to take an examination in the Autumn Term if they would like to.

Weekday Private Tuition
Individual lessons are available on Friday evenings. Lessons are suitable for all ages and can be tailored to your needs but would be particularly useful to any of our students who are looking at applying for Performing Arts Courses and want to increase their confidence in dance.
